It is known that medicine is facing an epic change. Numerous disciplines are widening their horizons and are starting to embrace a more multidisciplinary approach to medical research and its translation to patient care. As the global osteopathic profession participates in this epic change, it is critical for its members to understand the profession’s current contributions in human, animal and in vitro research related to the field of manual treatment. This foundation will help the osteopathic profession prioritize future research to advance patient care and the understanding of biologic mechanisms underlying manual treatment.
Based on this perspective, the Accademia Italiana Osteopatia Tradizionale (AIOT), European Institute for Evidence Based Osteopathic Medicine (EBOM), Centro Ricerche Olistiche per la Medicina Osteopatica e Naturale (CROMON) and the Libera Universitas di Medicina Naturale ed Olistico Sistemica (LUMENOLIS) are delighted to present the first international congress on BIOlogical MEchanisms of Osteopathy – BIOMECH'O 2014.
The aims of the congress are 1) to explore current biological mechanisms involved in osteopathic treatment, 2) to articulate and support enhanced guidelines to improve the basics of osteopathy and 3) to establish a culture of international and multidisciplinary collaborations.
To achieve these aims, the conference consists of the most relevant biological and medical topics presented by leading researchers in their disciplines. The presenters will offer the latest in-vitro, animal and human research related to the field of osteopathy. By the design of the conference organizers, the program also includes opportunities for multidisciplinary discussions involving various professionals such as basic and clinical researchers, osteopaths, physicians, and veterinarians. Based on quality and innovative debate, we will foster ways that the osteopathic profession will engage the new frontier for medical research and set a framework for inter-institutional and multidisciplinary collaboration to optimally position osteopathy within the emerging epic changes unfolding in medicine and patient care.
